How Do our Feet Contribute to Low baCk Pain?

3/29/2021

Flattened arches in your feet can cause the buttock muscles
to stop firing which can lead to an unstable low back.

The hip flexors in the groin must now overwork to compensate
for the buttock muscles going on vacation and no longer working.

This feels like a groin strain which limits mobility in the hips, causing pain in the hips and this continues to inhibit the buttock muscles from working/firing.

Unstable low backs are easily injured with simple tasks like stepping down from the sidewalk!

Some overuse injuries in the feet and mechanical foot pain on walking is an attempt for your feet to assist in stabilizing your hips and low back.

It is imperative with chronic hip and low back pain, not responding to care, that the feet get assessed and corrected from the ground up!

Why Are My Feet So Sore During the CoviD PAnDeMiC?

One, we are spending more time indoors and at home and many people don’t wear shoes inside. Without proper shoes and arch support; people are more likely to strain their arch and put increased stress on the ligaments, tendons and the balls of the foot.

Walking barefoot, or with socks or house slippers can put you at increased risk for foot problems including plantar fasciitis, tendinitis and metatarsalgia. It is recommended you wear house shoes to provide much needed support and cushioning for your feet at home.

Secondly, we are now more active with walking and hiking as our activity of choice to be social, see friends and exercise with gyms closed. Increased walking and activity can exacerbate underlying overuse injuries in the feet. Any mechanical foot pain should be diagnosed and treated if it persists.

Please give us a call if you need a comprehensive Pedorthic Foot Assessment.

Custom foot orthoses can be used to off-load painful foot conditions, protect the Diabetic foot from ulcers/ amputations, increase alignment up the kinetic chain and encourage walkability.

Each time you are covered; we recommend subsequent pairs so that they can be left in different footwear without moving orthoses around which increases compliance.

HOW DOES MY FEET AFFECT MY BACK?

Collapsed arches in the feet can cause low back and knee pain similar to building a house on quicksand; the house starts to cave in from above due to a shaky and unstable foundation.

Custom Foot Orthotics correct foot imbalance for improved weight distribution and alignment up the kinetic chain which decreases knee discomfort, low back pain and neck pain.

Once your Physiotherapist or Chiropractor corrects your spine; Custom Foot Orthotics will help support good posture and reduce stress throughout the body and help you hold your treatment longer.

If you'd like to use your extended benefits for orthotics this year please contact us to book an appointment.
